Slow Haven is a private wellness retreat and community spa space, located inside a 1924 Craftsman bungalow in Portland, Oregon. The concept was conceived during a honeymoon trip to Jalisco and rooted in the couple’s shared love of the Pacific Northwest and Mexico.
The design integrates natural materials—Oregon black walnut, cedar, stone, and handmade Mexican tile—to connect regional character with cultural memory. Skylights, custom lighting, and integrated planters create sensory links between indoor rituals and surrounding ecologies, reinforcing the relationship between light, material, and landscape.
Custom-fabricated fixtures and windows, crafted on site, express the project’s hands-on approach. Spatial strategies such as carved alcoves, sectional lighting, and restrained detailing reflect a dialogue between modern design and the home’s original architecture.
